Michael Millenson
Michael L. Millenson is an internationally recognized expert on making health care better, safer and more patient-centered and is a consultant to Health Catalyst. The author of the critically acclaimed book, Demanding Medical Excellence: Doctors and Accountability in the Information Age, Michael is president of Health Quality Advisors LLC and an adjunct associate professor of medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.
As a consultant, Michael has worked with a broad range of industry clients, focusing on strategic planning and product development. In the policy arena, he has testified before Congress and the Federal Trade Commission and co-authored policy papers for the Urban Institute and other organizations. In addition, Michael co-authored a case study for the Harvard Business School, and he has written for publications ranging from the British Medical Journal and Health Affairs to The Washington Post and Medium. Michael’s research includes examining direct-to-consumer digital diagnostics, innovations in patient-centered care, and the barriers to adoption of patient safety practices.
Prior to starting his own firm, Millenson was a principal in the health-care practice of a major human resources consulting firm. Before that, he was a health care reporter for the Chicago Tribune, where he was nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize. A sought-after speaker, Michael has keynoted numerous meetings and guest-lectured at medical centers. He has also served as a faculty member for the International Society for Quality in Health Care, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the MATTER health care incubator. National Public Radio called Michael “in the vanguard of the movement” to measure and improve medicine, and he has been quoted or had his work cited by the New York Times, Washington Post, Kaiser Health News and many other publications. Stanley Pestotnik is a clinical pharmacist and informatics practitioner with over 30-years of experience in health IT focused on patient safety and infectious diseases. He is the former Chief Strategy Officer of Pascal Metrics and prior to that was the founding CEO of TheraDoc. Before TheraDoc he was the Director, LDS Hospital Drug Surveillance and Safety Program and lead knowledge engineer of Intermountain Health Care’s Infectious Diseases Informatics Group – credited with developing and deploying the United States first comprehensive clinical decision support software for infection control, antimicrobial stewardship and adverse drug event surveillance and management. He has authored over 75 peer-reviewed publications on the clinical use of health IT and patient safety in journals such as the American Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine and Pharmacotherapy. He received his pharmacy and medical informatics degrees from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy and School of Medicine, respectively.
